Detroit's Dirty Dozen built their reputation on chaotic, irreverent hip hop with a twist: six members, each with an alter ego, giving them twelve distinct personalities to throw at any track. With Eminem as the de facto frontman, D12 put out Devil's Night in 2001 and D12 World in 2004, both debuting at number one in the US, UK, and Australia, and both going double platinum. Singles like Purple Pills, Fight Music, and the tongue in cheek My Band kept them on heavy rotation across that whole era. Proof's death in 2006 hit the group hard, and Eminem stepping back left them in a much quieter phase. The remaining core of Bizarre, Kuniva, and Swifty McVay kept things moving with mixtapes, though the classic lineup was never fully reassembled. Eminem eventually confirmed the group had disbanded on his 2018 album Kamikaze, closing a chapter on one of hip hop's most unpredictable group acts.
