About
Dang Show describes their sound as 'New Age Folklore', which turns out to be a pretty accurate label for what they actually do: blend Iranian classical music with jazz, using an unlikely combination of saxophone, tonbak, cello, piano, and bass. The Tehran formed group has been at it since 2007, built around brothers Taha Parsa and Reza Shaya, with Saba Samimi rounding out the core lineup. Their album Mad O Nay won Best Fusion Album in Iran in 2018, a nod to just how distinctive their crossover approach sounds. Even the name carries weight, pulling from a poem by Mowlana and roughly translating to 'give up your wisdom'. They have performed across Iran, the US, Canada, the UK, Thailand, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, with recent activity centered on Toronto.
