Daniel Harding conducts at the very top level of classical music, currently serving as music director of the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and set to take the helm of the Los Angeles Philharmonic from the 2027 to 2028 season. He made his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic at just 21, after Claudio Abbado personally picked him as an assistant, and became the youngest conductor ever to appear at the BBC Proms in 1996. He has led major ensembles including the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris, and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, and he stepped in at La Scala in 2005 to conduct Idomeneo after Riccardo Muti's dramatic resignation. What makes him genuinely unusual among conductors is his second career as a licensed pilot, flying Airbus jets on medium haul routes for Air France around once a week a month.
