Few cellists can claim a Goffriller from 1727 as their instrument, but Daniel Müller Schott plays exactly that, a cello built in Venice nearly three centuries ago that he brings to stages worldwide. The Munich born cellist has built a discography that ranges from Bach's solo suites to Shostakovich's cello concertos, working with conductors including Vladimir Ashkenazy, Charles Dutoit, and André Previn along the way. He recorded the Mozart Piano Trios alongside Anne Sophie Mutter and Previn, and with Angela Hewitt he tackled the complete Beethoven works for cello and piano. Müller Schott is particularly drawn to the big Romantic and twentieth century concerto repertoire. His recording of the Elgar and Walton cello concertos with Previn and the Oslo Philharmonic won the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik and was named CD of the Week by The Times. His Shostakovich concertos disc with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra picked up similar praise. More recently he has explored Russian repertoire on record, pairing Tchaikovsky, Glazunov, and Rimsky Korsakov with the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin.
