Danny Grissett is a Los Angeles born jazz pianist, keyboardist, and composer who has quietly become one of the more respected voices in post bop. After making his name on the LA scene he moved to New York in 2003, and quickly landed a spot as keyboardist for trumpeter Nicholas Payton before becoming a long standing member of Tom Harrell's band from 2005 onward. His first album as a leader came out in 2006 on the Criss Cross label, and he has kept recording for them since. Early releases Promise and Encounters were intimate trio sessions with bassist Vicente Archer and drummer Kendrick Scott, while Form from 2008 expanded the lineup to include Seamus Blake, Ambrose Akinmusire, and Steve Davis. A Down Beat reviewer once described his playing as drawing from Mulgrew Miller, Herbie Hancock, and Sonny Clark to tell stories with his own harmonic and rhythmic signature.
