About
Also known as: DJ Styles, Darren James Mew, Styles, Unique
Few names in UK hardcore carry as much weight as Darren Styles. Starting out in the early 1990s as part of breakbeat hardcore crew DJ Force & The Evolution, he went on to form Force & Styles with Hobbs, and the duo became genuine pioneers of happy hardcore, churning out tracks like "Heart of Gold", "Pretty Green Eyes" and "Paradise & Dreams" that commercial dance acts would later cover. They were also the first hardcore DJs ever to do a guest mix on Pete Tong's Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1, which was a pretty big deal at the time. Going solo, Styles proved he could hold his own outside of a duo. His album Skydivin' went gold in the UK and peaked at number four on the charts, and he followed it with Feel the Pressure in 2010. He also co launched the long running Clubland X Treme Hardcore compilation series with Hixxy, several volumes of which earned gold certification. More recently he has been putting out remixes and collaborations, including work with Gammer, keeping his name firmly in the electronic and hardcore scene.
