About
Daughter built their reputation on the kind of intimate, emotionally raw songwriting that feels almost too personal to share. The London trio, fronted by vocalist and lyricist Elena Tonra, pairs delicate folk tinged guitar work with atmospheric production that can shift from whisper quiet to genuinely crushing. Their 2013 debut album If You Leave charted at Number 16 in the UK and won Independent Album of the Year at the AIM Independent Music Awards, with critics raving about its emotional weight and coherence as a listening experience. Their second album Not to Disappear arrived in 2016 with a fuller, rockier sound, reflecting years of live shows that had gradually pushed their arrangements harder. Then came something of a curveball: their third album, Music From Before the Storm, was the official soundtrack to the video game Life Is Strange: Before the Storm. The score earned plenty of praise as one of the standout elements of the game. Daughter are signed to 4AD in Europe and Glassnote in North America, and their 2023 album Stereo Mind Game shows they are still very much in the mix.
