About
Also known as: D’Angel, Van De Glee
Dave Angel has been a quietly influential force in European techno since the early 1990s, running his own Rotation Records and helping break producers like Vince Watson, Samuel L. Session and Steve Rachmad long before they became circuit staples. His sound has always had a distinctive breadth: jazz textures, Detroit techno grit, funk and acid house all folded into his productions. His career got its unlikely start when a reworked bootleg mix of the Eurythmics' 'Sweet Dreams' hit number 23 on the UK Singles Chart, with Dave Stewart himself stepping in to greenlight the release. From there, Angel became a fixture on R&S Records and released work across Black Market, Love and Island Records, with the 1997 album Globetrotting marking a shift toward deeper funk territory. He's also the elder brother of rapper Monie Love, which makes for a pretty remarkable family tree in UK music.
