About
Dave Green has been one of the steadiest hands in British jazz since the early 1960s, a bassist whose name turns up on sessions spanning trad, bebop, and boogie woogie alike. His long stint with Humphrey Lyttelton ran two decades, but he was equally at home backing visiting American heavyweights at Ronnie Scott's, including Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster, and Sonny Rollins. He led his own group Fingers in the early 1980s, a nicely eclectic outfit featuring Lol Coxhill and Michael Garrick, and their debut paid tribute to Charles Mingus. Green became a founding member of Charlie Watts's quintet in 1991, a connection that stretched back to childhood performances with the Rolling Stones drummer decades earlier. Since the late 1990s he has kept a trio going with Iain Dixon and Gene Calderazzo, and he has also been part of The ABC&D of Boogie Woogie alongside Watts and Axel Zwingenberger, playing venues as grand as the Lincoln Center.
