About
Also known as: Dave Morales
Few DJs can claim a back catalogue quite like David Morales. The New York born, Puerto Rican bred house veteran has remixed and produced over 500 releases, working with everyone from Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston to U2, Madonna and Michael Jackson. That relentless output earned him the 1998 Grammy Award for Remixer of the Year, a title that cemented his reputation as one of the original superstar DJs. His roots go deep: he was a regular at New York's Paradise Garage and The Loft before launching his own night in Brooklyn back in 1981. Beyond the remix booth, Morales has built a serious discography of his own. His 1998 track "Needin' U", released under the alias The Face, went to number one on the dance charts and got covered worldwide. His third album Changes, out in 2011 on Ultra Records, featured Róisín Murphy and Ultra Nate, and he has kept releasing music through his Def Mix Music label ever since. He also co owns the legendary Stereo nightclub in Montreal, where he ran marathon 16 hour sets every month for nine years.
