About

Dawn Penn spent years away from the music industry before one song pulled her back and went global. The Jamaican reggae and rocksteady singer originally cut "You Don't Love Me" at the legendary Studio One in 1967, but it was the reworked version, "You Don't Love Me (No, No, No)", that hit number one in Jamaica and number three on the UK Singles Chart in 1994, turning her into an international name overnight. The track has since been sampled or covered by the likes of Ghostface Killah, Eve featuring Stephen Marley, Damian Marley, and 311, which says a lot about how deeply it lodged itself in the culture. Her 1994 album No, No, No on Big Beat Records cemented her comeback, and she kept showing up in interesting places after that. She performed the song at the BET Awards in 2013, appeared on Jools Holland's Hootenanny, and lent her voice to the Lee Thompson Ska Orchestra's single "Bangarang". Most recently she featured on "Crocadillaz" alongside De La Soul on Gorillaz's 2023 album Cracker Island, proof that her presence still carries real weight.
