About
De Mooie Dingen is a project built around vocalist Janke Dekker, who performs a personal selection from the long tradition of Dutch kleinkunst repertoire. Accompanied by a small orchestra led by Erik Vlasblom, she brings together songs that range from well known classics to forgotten gems, mixing the funny, the moving and the memorable in equal measure. The name of the project comes from a line written by Jurrian van Dongen with music by Rutger Laan, originally sung by Jenny Arean in the theatre programme Gedeelde Smart. It captures the spirit of what De Mooie Dingen is after: the idea that some songs have quietly lodged themselves in the collective memory, while others are simply waiting to be rediscovered.
