Out of Heidelberg, Germany, De Phazz has been blending downtempo grooves, jazz, Latin flavours, soul, trip hop and drum and bass into something that defies easy categorisation since their debut in 1997. Producer Pit Baumgartner is the constant at the centre of it all, shaping a rotating cast of vocalists and musicians, including regulars Barbara Lahr, Karl Frierson and Pat Appleton, into a sound that sits comfortably in the lounge without ever getting boring. Their catalogue is impressively deep, running from Detunized Gravity in 1997 through to Jelly Banquet in 2022 and the more recent Pit Sounds and presents De Drums in 2024. The group has put out records on Mole Listening Pearls and Universal Jazz Germany, with releases also landing on Edel Records and United Recordings. Their 2025 release Luck You! shows they are far from done.
