About
De Vrienden van Jan Rot keep the songs of Jan Rot alive, and those songs are mostly his Dutch adaptations of other people's music. The act is built around Marjolein Meijers, formerly of Berini's, who sang with Rot for over twenty years as the duo An en Jan. Rot also spent more than forty years recording and performing with Jakob Klaasse, and the two of them made dozens of albums together. The project grew out of a wish Rot himself expressed: that someone should keep making good programmes from his songs once he was no longer around. Meijers was the obvious person for the job. The result leans on his best tearjerkers and love songs, and the whole idea is that the audience sings along.
