About
Douwe and Renze de Vries make up the duo De Vries en De Vries, a pair who blend songs, anecdotes and imagery into live stage programmes with a distinctly Dutch flavour. Their show draws inspiration from Wim Sonneveld's classic song Het Dorp, using it as a springboard to explore rural life across the Netherlands, from Friesland and Groningen all the way down to Limburg. Village squares, local dialects, regional humour and the particular characters you only find in small communities all get their moment. Musician Abel Bakema and Steffen de Wolff accompany them on stage. Beneath the nostalgia there are real questions at the heart of what they do: why are cities growing while villages shrink, and what still connects urban and rural life in the Netherlands? It is warm and funny, but not without something to chew on.
