Croatian pianist and composer Dejan Lazic has built a reputation on both his performing chops and his willingness to push at the boundaries of the classical repertoire. His arrangement of the Brahms Violin Concerto for piano and orchestra, premiered with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in 2009, is a good example: taking a beloved violin showpiece and reworking it entirely for his own instrument is a bold move, and it earned him a BBC Proms debut in 2011. He records for Channel Classics, where his Liaisons series pairs composers in unexpected combinations, think Scarlatti with Bartók or Schumann with Brahms. His live recording of the Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No. 2 with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under Kirill Petrenko won the German Echo Klassik Award in 2009. Beyond the concert hall, he made headlines in 2014 when he tried to invoke EU "right to be forgotten" law to take down a critical Washington Post review.
