About
Denise Jannah holds a notable place in jazz history as the first Dutch jazz soloist to be signed by Blue Note Records, the legendary label whose roster reads like a who's who of the genre. Born Denise Johanna Zeefuik, she burst onto the scene with her debut at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 1991, the same year her first album came out. Her second record, A Heart Full of Music, earned her an Edison Music Award in 1993, and she went on to win a second one later in her career. She recorded several albums for Blue Note through the late nineties, covering vocal jazz, bebop, and jazz ballads with equal ease. A 1996 documentary captured her rise under the title Denise Jannah, New Lady in Jazz. Her discography stretches well into the 2000s, including a heartfelt tribute to Ella Fitzgerald and the 2017 release Lost and Found.
