Few Finnish metal bands have stayed as locked in as Diablo. Formed in Kalajoki back in 1995 under the name Diablo Brothers, the group blends groove metal heaviness with the melodic death metal sensibility of the Gothenburg scene, drawing from bands like Dark Tranquillity and In Flames while keeping the crunch of Metallica and Slayer firmly in the mix. The result is a sound that hits hard but never loses its melodic thread. Over nearly three decades the band has built a catalogue of seven studio albums, starting with Elegance in Black in 2000 and running through to When All the Rivers Are Silent, released in 2022. The core lineup has been remarkably stable, with vocalist and guitarist Rainer Nygård, lead guitarist Marko Utriainen, and bassist Aadolf Virtanen all on board since the very beginning.
