About
With over 200 compositions to his name and more than 70 CD recordings, Belgian conductor and composer Dirk Brossé operates at the intersection of classical concert music, film scoring, and grand theatrical spectacle. His score for the BBC/HBO series Parade's End earned an Emmy nomination, and his film work stretches back to Daens, which landed an Academy Award nomination in 1993. John Williams personally chose him as Principal Conductor of the Star Wars in Concert World Tour, a pretty remarkable endorsement from one of cinema's most legendary composers. Brossé serves as music director of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and of the Ghent Film Festival, while also holding a professorship in composition and conducting at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent. His collaborators read like a who's who across genres, from Sinéad O'Connor and Toots Thielemans to Hans Zimmer and Youssou N'Dour. He also wrote the score for the Belgian musical based on Tintin, premiered in 2001, and composed Haiku Cycle 1 for soprano Jessye Norman, setting texts by Herman Van Rompuy.
