Disaster in the Universe blend psychedelic textures, rock, pop and dub into something that feels genuinely hard to pin down, and that unpredictability is a big part of their appeal. The Oslo band's early singles caught serious attention in Norway: 'Beach House' landed on more than twelve radio playlists including the NRK P3 A List, became a national summer hit in 2012, and even opened the TV show Gullruten live from Bergen's Grieg Hall. An industry rep from Island Records UK and an editor at Dazed Digital both called their Øya Festival set the best concert they saw all weekend. Their debut album Coconut Message, produced by Peter Mayes who also worked with Empire of the Sun, came out in March 2014 and pulled in strong reviews across the Norwegian press, including a 5 out of 6 from Dagbladet. The band had been building toward it steadily, releasing a string of well received singles and playing festivals like Hove, Øya and Slottsfjellfestivalen, plus a support slot for Crystal Fighters.
