About

Also known as: Madumane, THEMBA SONNY BOY SEKOWE, Themba Sekowe

DJ Maphorisa, born Themba Sekowe in Pretoria and raised in Soshanguve, is one of South Africa's most versatile producers, equally at home shaping amapiano anthems, gqom rollers and afro house cuts. His production fingerprints are on a remarkable range of hits, from Kwesta's 'Ngud'' and DJ Zinhle's 'My Name Is' to work alongside global names like Wizkid, Drake, Major Lazer and Black Coffee. He founded his own imprint, BlaqBoy Music, after a stint with Kalawa Jazmee Records. The 2021 EP Banyana, made with Tyler ICU, stacked up over 4.2 million streams and earned a double platinum certification from the Recording Industry of South Africa. That same year he co released the collaborative album Rumble in the Jungle with TRESOR and Kabza De Small. More recently he has kept busy with a steady stream of collaborations, including features alongside Focalistic and Scotts Maphuma into 2025, showing no signs of slowing down.
