DJ Paul Elstak is one of the defining figures of the Dutch gabber and happy hardcore scenes, a Rotterdam rooted movement that turned up the tempo and the aggression of rave music to extremes in the 1990s. Originally from The Hague and of Surinamese descent, he built his reputation as both a DJ and producer, releasing music under slightly different aliases depending on the style: DJ Paul for the harder gabber stuff, Paul Elstak for the happier, more melodic side of hardcore. He founded Offensive Records in 2001 and kept both names under one roof from then on. One of his more unexpected career moments came when he co wrote and co produced "Europapa" for Dutch artist Joost Klein, the track that represented the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. His track "Luv U More" also got a proper official music video treatment, showing he keeps adding to his catalogue.
