About

Also known as: D.J. Shadow, DJ Shadow Presents..., DJ Shadow/Q-Bert, Dj Shadow, Josh Davis, Josh Paul Davis, Joshua Paul Davis

Few records have redefined what sampling can be the way DJ Shadow's debut Endtroducing..... did. Released in 1996, it became the first fully sampled album ever listed in the Guinness World Records, built entirely from a drum machine, two turntables, and a borrowed Pro Tools rig. The raw material was crate dug vinyl, layered into something that felt genuinely new, blending hip hop, ambient, jazz, and soul without ever quite landing in any single genre. Time magazine later called it one of its all time 100 best albums. Beyond that landmark debut, the San Jose born producer and turntablist has kept pushing in different directions. He produced UNKLE's Psyence Fiction, which pulled in guests like Thom Yorke and Richard Ashcroft, scored the documentary Dark Days, and collaborated with Zack de la Rocha on the anti war track March of Death. His 2002 follow up The Private Press featured a video for Six Days directed by Wong Kar wai. More recently, Ozone Scraper showed he is still very much at work and not repeating himself.
