About
Named after a line in Omar Khayyam's 27th Rubaʿi, Dolu Kadehi Ters Tut are a Turkish pop rock duo from Istanbul made up of vocalist Uğurhan Özay and guitarist Mürsel Oğulcan Ava. Their sound pulls from funk rock and alternative rock, with Red Hot Chili Peppers and Twenty One Pilots as clear touchstones, and their lyrics lean heavily on the literary works of Sabahattin Ali and Özdemir Asaf. Their 2019 album Karanlık was mastered by Vlado Meller, the same engineer behind RHCP classics like Californication and Stadium Arcadium, which tells you something about the sonic ambition they bring to their work. Since forming in 2014, they have self produced five albums, three EPs and a steady stream of singles, building a devoted following on digital platforms without major label machinery behind them. Their music videos, mostly shot in a mini film style, are largely directed by Ava himself. Collaborations with artists like Deniz Tekin, Can Ozan and Dilan Balkay have dotted their catalogue, and with releases like Ölüm Dansı in 2023 and new singles appearing into 2025, the duo shows no signs of slowing down.
