Dominik Eulberg is a German minimal techno DJ and producer from Altenkirchen in the Westerwald region, and his music is unlike almost anyone else's in the genre. He weaves field recordings of birds and other natural sounds directly into his tracks, earning the label Öko Techno, a fitting tag for someone who studied ecology and actively campaigns for nature conservation. His early work leaned toward Schranz, but releases like Der Hecht im Karpfenteich on Cologne's Traum Schallplatten and later records through Cocoon Recordings helped establish his reputation across Europe. Since 2017 his profile has grown steadily, partly thanks to that signature nature sound approach and partly through his own label Apus apus, named after the common swift. He has collaborated with Gabriel Ananda on tracks that did well in Germany, contributed to scientific projects with the Chaos Computer Club and German conservation groups, and has even written a popular science book on ecology. He has cited Olivier Messiaen, whose bird inspired compositions share a certain kinship with Eulberg's own sonic world, as a clear influence.
