About

DOMNIQ is the stage name of Dutch percussionist Dominique Vleeshouwers, who leads The DOMNIQ Group, an ensemble built around a genuinely global mix of musicians. The lineup brings together Korean flute players, Brazilian drummers, Malian balafoon players and Indian drummers, and also makes room for homemade instruments, including a device called the slapaphone. The group's sound sits at the crossroads of innovative percussion and traditional instruments drawn from cultures around the world. One major project is a new interpretation of Águas da Amazônia, originally composed in 1999, developed in collaboration with Philip Glass himself. The piece weaves together Glass's famous Metamorphosis with work by Irish composer Emma O'Halloran and compositions by DOMNIQ, all organised around a single theme: the power of water, and what happens when the source runs dry.
