About
Don Carlos, born Euvin McCallus Spencer in Kingston, Jamaica, got his first real break as a founding member of Black Uhuru in 1973, singing alongside Garth Dennis and Derrick Simpson. He later went solo and built a substantial catalogue across labels like RAS Records, Greensleeves, and Heartbeat, covering deep roots reggae, dub, and rocksteady territory. Albums like Day to Day Living and Deeply Concerned cemented his reputation as a steady, soulful voice in the Jamaican tradition. Beyond his solo work, Don Carlos has collaborated with a wide range of acts, from rootsy outfits like Groundation to California reggae band Slightly Stoopid and Rebelution, showing just how far his sound travels. He also has a devoted following across Africa, with tours through Kenya and Zambia proving that roots reggae connects well beyond the Caribbean. His discography runs deep, and he keeps showing up on new recordings decades into his career.
