About
Also known as: Don H. Grusin, Donald Henri Grusin, Grusin
A Quincy Jones tour invite in 1975 was all it took to pull Don Grusin away from a career as an economics professor and into full time music. The Denver born keyboardist and composer found his footing as a studio musician, lending his playing to albums by Randy Crawford, Joe Pass, and the Pointer Sisters, before building a solo career that spans from sleek jazz fusion to Latin tinged contemporary jazz. His ear for production paid off early when the album he produced for Ernie Watts won a Grammy in 1985, and he later picked up Grammy nominations and wins for his own live record The Hang as well as work with the Paul Winter Consort. Collaborations with an enormous cast of artists, from Gilberto Gil and Milton Nascimento to Sérgio Mendes and Patti Austin, have kept him busy across decades. His 2020 release Out of Thin Air and a 2025 album called Old Times show he has no intention of slowing down.
