About
Also known as: Donnel Jones, Donnell Jones, ドネル・ジョーンズ
Donell Jones built his reputation on warm, smooth R&B that sits right in the quiet storm tradition, and his 1999 album Where I Wanna Be is still the record most people point to. Its lead single "U Know What's Up", featuring Lisa Lopes, hit number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 and number two on the UK Singles Chart, sitting behind Manic Street Preachers and Britney Spears for two weeks. The album eventually went platinum in the US. He got his start at LaFace Records as a songwriter, penning tracks for Usher and 702 before stepping into the spotlight himself. His third album Life Goes On debuted at number three on the Billboard 200, and Journey of a Gemini topped the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart entirely. After parting ways with LaFace, Jones kept things moving on his own terms through his Candyman Music label, releasing Lyrics and Forever to solid chart returns. He has also contributed to projects by Jacquees and Jon B., showing he is still very much in the mix.
