About
Dorine Wiersma is a Dutch singer, songwriter and cabaret artist who trained in classical guitar before carving out a career writing and performing her own songs. In 2008 she won the Annie M.G. Schmidt Prize for her song 'Stoute Heleen', after which she toured theatres as a solo act. Her work tends to sit somewhere between musical theatre and singer songwriter territory, with themes of love, loss, change and ageing running through her material. She brings both genuine emotion and a light, humorous touch to her shows. In her theatre production 'Gaandeweg' she steps away from topical commentary in favour of those more universal subjects, and for the first time she shares the stage with other musicians, namely Jaap van Westen and Wieke Garcia. The music moves fluidly across different styles, and the show also incorporates projected photography, adding a visual dimension to the songs.
