Doris Hochscheid (NL)

About

Doris Hochscheid works at the intersection of theatre and music, bringing together her roles as cellist and theatre maker in a single performance practice. Her show Troost builds a series of characters who each deal differently with loss, fear and longing, some seeking comfort and others stubbornly refusing it. The cello runs through the whole piece as a connecting thread while she moves between music, spoken text and acting. She shifts without effort between intimate and grand, between light and heavy, letting the music take over where words fall short. Works by Chopin, Liszt, Wiegerink and Van Goens feature in the performance, which moves between recognition and a sense of estrangement.
