About
Also known as: Paul Kevin Masterson
Dorothy is a Los Angeles rock quartet built around the singular presence of singer Dorothy Martin, who was born in Budapest, Hungary. Signed to Jay Z's Roc Nation label, the band rounds out with drummer Zac Morris, guitarist Mark Jackson and bassist Gregg Cash, a lineup that came together through a series of chance encounters around Hollywood. The group's sound is rooted in classic rock tradition but filtered through Martin's intense, almost shamanistic personality, giving it a raw edge that is hard to place anywhere else. Martin has been firm from the start that Dorothy is a genuine band rather than a solo project with a backing group, and the music backs her up: the four members lock into a muscular rhythm section under melodic guitar and vocals that feel genuinely collective.
