About

Double Trouble started as a revue band in Austin and ended up as the engine room behind one of the most celebrated blues guitarists of the 1980s. Stevie Ray Vaughan named the group after an Otis Rush song, and after a few early line up changes it settled into a tight power trio with Chris Layton on drums and Tommy Shannon on bass. Reese Wynans joined on keys by 1985, making it a four piece. They became the first unsigned act to play the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1982, got booed, and still caught the ears of David Bowie and Jackson Browne. Texas Flood followed in 1983 and was a hit, and the band was soon touring around the world. All four studio albums with Vaughan went platinum, they won four Grammys, and the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015. Since Vaughan's death in 1990, Double Trouble has kept going, releasing a studio album in 2001 and backing Austin musicians as a session band.
