Down To The Bone is a UK acid jazz outfit built around one genuinely unusual creative process: bandleader Stuart Wade doesn't play a single instrument. Instead, he hums ideas into a dictaphone and shapes the group's sound from there. He founded the band in 1996 and has steered it through a string of albums that blend funk and jazz into what fans in Britain have called the kings of UK jazz groove. Over the years the band has collaborated with some serious names, including vibraphonist Roy Ayers, organist Brian Auger, flautist Jeremy Steig, and vocalist Flora Purim. The project grew large enough that by 2014 Down To The Bone was running two separate lineups, one based in the US and one in the UK, each carrying the groove forward in their own corner of the world.
