Phoenix Down turned Dropout Kings is a nu metal outfit from Phoenix, Arizona, blending rap, metalcore, and trap metal into a sound that sits somewhere between Linkin Park and the heavier end of the rap game. The whole thing kicked off when guitarist Adam Ramey cold approached rapper Eddie Wellz about covering a Linkin Park track, liked what he heard, and built a full band around it. Their 2018 debut AudioDope cracked two US Billboard charts, and the band toured alongside OTEP with Dez Fafara of DevilDriver handling management duties. The single "Virus" featuring Shayley Bourget became their biggest moment, peaking at number 33 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Radio Charts after 12 weeks in the Top 40, and even drew Grammy consideration for Best New Artist. Signed to Suburban Noize Records, they kept the momentum going with the EP GlitchGang and the album Riot Music in 2023. Tragically, founding vocalist Adam Ramey passed away in May 2025 at the age of 32, a huge loss for a band that had worked hard to carve out its own lane in modern heavy music.
