About
Also known as: Duffhues
Duffhuës, who hails from Oss in the Netherlands, has carved out a lane as a singular kind of storyteller. The songs work like short fiction: characters stumble through everyday, strange or outright absurd situations, and a dark, tragic, melancholic view of humanity seeps through all of it. The sound draws from grungy blues and folk noir, and the whole thing is rooted in the tradition of the troubadour, someone who watches the world closely and reports back with sharpness and a sense of the tragic. His eleventh album, It Has No Face, pulls together songs about warmongers, snake charmers, a catnapper, despots and apocalyptic visions. That existentialist streak runs through everything he does, and his approach to songwriting stays stubbornly unconventional, favouring atmosphere and character over standard song structures.
