About
Duo Calvadoré brings together saxophonist Arno Bornkamp and pianist Jan Lust, a pairing rooted in jazz but clearly at home in the broader world of early twentieth century repertoire. Their programme The Saxophone Craze is a curated selection of music from the 1920s, a decade when the saxophone enjoyed a wave of wild popularity in America, with manufacturers competing to outdo each other with ever more elaborate instruments until the 1929 stock market crash brought the whole thing to a halt. Bornkamp adds a striking extra dimension by performing on vintage saxophones drawn from his own personal collection, making the concerts as much a chance to hear rare instruments as to enjoy the music itself.
