About
Ebony Ensemble accompanies silent films from the early twentieth century with live music. One of the films in their programme is a 1908 French historical piece about the assassination of a French duke, notable as the very first film for which a dedicated score was ever composed, that original music written by Camille Saint Saëns. Another film they accompany is set in Paris in 1924 and stands as a rare surviving example of Dadaist cinema, a movement built around absurdism and anti art. The ensemble brings these forgotten works back to life by pairing the visuals with original musical accompaniment, creating a performance that sits somewhere between concert and film screening.
