About
Eden Brent plays boogie woogie piano like she learned it at the source, because she did. For 16 years she studied under blues pioneer Abie "Boogaloo" Ames, who gave her the nickname "Little Boogaloo." She then built a sound that mixes blues with jazz, soul, gospel and pop, and her singing has drawn comparisons to Bessie Smith, Memphis Minnie and Aretha Franklin. The trophy shelf is crowded. She won the Blues Foundation's International Blues Challenge in 2006, then took two Blues Music Awards in 2009, Acoustic Artist of the Year and Acoustic Album of the Year for Mississippi Number One. She has been named Pinetop Perkins Piano Player twice, in 2010 and 2025, and picked up the Koko Taylor Award for Traditional Blues Female Artist in 2026. Her records come out on Yellow Dog Records, the latest being Getaway Blues in 2024, and she has played Notodden, the Chicago Blues Festival and New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
