About
EHBO brings together four distinct voices from the Dutch jazz and free improvisation world, united by a shared connection to the legacy of pianist Misha Mengelberg. Drummer Han Bennink is one of the most internationally recognised Dutch jazz musicians, with a back catalogue that includes collaborations with Dexter Gordon, Johnny Griffin, Sonny Rollins, Wes Montgomery and Eric Dolphy. He co founded the influential Instant Composers Pool in 1967 alongside Mengelberg and Willem Breuker, a collective that bassist Ernst Glerum is also part of. Glerum has performed with the likes of Steve Lacy, Lee Konitz and Don Byron. Saxophonist Benjamin Herman, known from New Cool Collective among many other projects, moves easily between punk, smooth jazz, free improvisation and groove music. Pianist Oscar Jan Hoogland is considered a leading figure in the Amsterdam impro scene and was the last student of Mengelberg himself, representing what some describe as the fourth generation of Dutch improvisers.
