About
Ella and Nicolas van Poucke are a Dutch cellist pianist sibling duo who have built impressive solo careers while also collaborating closely together. Ella, playing cello, has performed with major orchestras including the Netherlands Philharmonic and the Brussels Philharmonic, and has shared chamber music stages with names like Gidon Kremer, Vilde Frang and Tabea Zimmermann. Her debut recording focused on the complete works for cello by Schumann, earning praise from Gramophone for her 'spontaneity and delicacy'. Nicolas, meanwhile, has made his mark as a solo pianist with a strong feel for the Romantic repertoire, releasing albums devoted to Chopin sonatas and Schumann, and making his London debut at the Royal Festival Hall with the Chineke! Orchestra. Together in 2010 they co founded the Chamber Music Festival Amsterdam, which Ella continues to direct. It is a rare thing when two siblings both reach this level independently while still finding time to build something meaningful together.
