About
Matthew Robert Cooper makes ambient music under the name Eluvium, releasing records through Portland's Temporary Residence Limited since his debut Lambent Material in 2003. His sound spans slow burning guitar textures, solo piano pieces, and more electronic territory, and he has built up a substantial catalog that includes Copia, Nightmare Ending, False Readings On, and the ongoing Virga series. The album artwork is frequently handled by Jeannie Paske, giving the releases a consistent visual identity. Cooper rarely stays in one lane for long. He scored Matt McCormick's film Some Days Are Better Than Others and Mike Ambs's For Thousands of Miles, released electronic material under the alias Martin Eden, and teamed up with Mark T. Smith of Explosions in the Sky to form Inventions, a duo that put out three albums between 2014 and 2020. His most recent solo Eluvium record is (Whirring Marvels In) Consensus Reality from 2023.
