What happens when four Nirvana fans show up to a party with no resemblance to Kurt Cobain and his crew? You get Elvana, the Newcastle born tribute act that plays Nirvana songs dressed entirely as Elvis Presley. Founded in 2014, the concept sounds like a joke on paper but it works spectacularly in practice, and the band have grown it from house parties to festival main stages. Their lead singer describes the Elvis impersonation as 'everyday, slightly dodgy' and 'punk rock', which tells you everything about the tone they're going for. Elvana genuinely love both acts they're channelling, and over time they've started weaving Elvis songs into the Nirvana material rather than just doing straight covers in a jumpsuit. That layered absurdity has earned them a slot at Glastonbury 2022 and a spot on The Scotsman's top ten list for the 2023 Download Festival. It's a stupid idea executed with total commitment, which is basically the best kind.
