Emmanuel Top is a French acid techno producer from Lille whose tracks have a way of burrowing deep into a dancefloor and staying there. His 1995 cut "Acid Phase" became something of a touchstone for the genre, helped along by a remix from Kai Tracid that landed regularly on MTV. A year earlier, "Turkish Bazar" had already made his name, built around a Roland TB 303 bassline and a looping vocal fragment lifted from Jim Morrison performing with The Doors. The TB 303 is basically his signature instrument. In 1996 he stepped outside the club circuit as part of BBE, a trio completed by Bruno Sanchioni and Bruno Quartier, and scored two top five UK hits with "Seven Days and One Week" and "Flash". After a long quiet spell he came roaring back around 2011, releasing a sprawling run of material including a twelve volume series of Soundtrack albums and several other releases through 2013 and 2014.
