About
Ensemble de Nootzaak has been on a mission since 2014: bringing classical music and culture to wider audiences. The ensemble built a programme called Ludwig around the pivotal figure of Beethoven, tracing the shift from classicism to Romanticism. Beethoven, trained in the classical tradition by Haydn, gradually pushed his work in a more Romantic direction and in doing so gave music history a sharp new turn. The Ludwig programme explores that transformation not only through Beethoven's own compositions but also through the music of composers who admired and followed him, including Brahms, Glinka and Stamitz. The ensemble tends to perform in intimate settings where the audience sits at small tables close to the musicians, which fits their approachable, up close philosophy nicely.
