With over 80 million albums sold, Enya sits comfortably among the best selling artists in music history and holds the title of Ireland's best selling solo act. Her sound is instantly recognisable: layers upon layers of her own vocals stacked over lush instrumentation, drenched in reverb, with Celtic textures woven throughout. That signature carried her second album Watermark to worldwide fame in 1988, largely on the back of "Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)", and she never really looked back. Since then, Enya has built a catalogue that spans new age, Celtic and folk territory, racking up four Grammy Awards along the way and scoring an Academy Award nomination for "May It Be" from The Lord of the Rings. She works closely with producer Nicky Ryan and lyricist Roma Ryan, a partnership that has shaped her entire solo output. Her 2015 album Dark Sky Island was her most recent collection of new material, and Watermark received the RTÉ Choice Music Prize Classic Irish Album award in 2025.
