About
Era is the brainchild of French composer Eric Lévi, and its sound is genuinely hard to pin down. Lévi blends hard rock guitar work and classical influences with sweeping vocal melodies sung largely in a made up language inspired by Latin but carrying no actual meaning. That mysterious quality helped the debut album Era, released in 1996, sell over six million copies worldwide and become the most exported French album of its time, largely on the strength of the single "Ameno". Over the years the project has kept shifting. Era 2 and The Mass followed, then 2008's Reborn brought in Arabic influences and a heavier electronic feel. The Classics albums saw Lévi reinterpret Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart and others in his own style. The music has found an enormous second life in pop culture too, from MMA walkouts to TikTok memes. The 7th Sword arrived in 2017, and the project's first live album, Era The Live Experience, came out in 2022.
