Erik van Muiswinkel is a Dutch cabaret performer with a sharp eye for history and comedy. In the theatrical show De Gouden Jaren, he teams up with pianist and musical director Cor Bakker to take audiences back through the second half of the twentieth century. Van Muiswinkel's role is that of the cabaret expert and storyteller, weaving together cultural references that stretch from Annie M.G. Schmidt and Simon Carmiggelt to Doe Maar and the Fabeltjeskrant. Along the way he drops unexpected comic observations on subjects like dentists, school principals and road safety, making the point that the past was not quite as golden as nostalgia would have it. The show is built around live music, archive footage and the kind of recognition that hits audiences whether they lived through that era or only heard about it.
