About
Euregio Jeugdorkest is a youth orchestra from Europe that brings together young musicians for ambitious classical and orchestral programmes. Under the baton of conductor Hans Casteleyn, the ensemble takes on repertoire that ranges from grand romantic showpieces to iconic film scores. Past programmes have featured works by Gustav Holst, Richard Wagner, Sergei Prokofiev, Ottorino Respighi and Jules Massenet alongside compositions by Jan Van der Roost and film music by John Williams. The orchestra tends to build its concerts around a strong central theme. One programme, titled IN ORBIT, charted a course through space using Holst's The Planets as its centrepiece. Another, called ROYAAL, explored royal courts and mythical kingdoms through music stretching from a Walton coronation march to the throne room fanfare from Star Wars. That blend of serious orchestral ambition and crowd pleasing variety gives the ensemble a broad appeal, making their concerts accessible without being lightweight.
