Few rock bands have blurred the line between classical drama and heavy metal quite like Evanescence. Formed in Little Rock, Arkansas by Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody, the band broke through hard with their 2003 debut Fallen, driven by massive singles like "Bring Me to Life" and "My Immortal". The album moved over four million copies in the US alone and earned the band two Grammy Awards. Their sound pulls from classical orchestration, electronic textures, and heavy metal, all tied together by Lee's commanding vocals and piano work. Their second album The Open Door, co written with guitarist Terry Balsamo, sold more than six million copies worldwide. The self titled third album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. After a hiatus and some lineup shuffling, they came back with Synthesis in 2017, reworking older material into full orchestral arrangements, then dropped The Bitter Truth in 2021. In total, Evanescence have shifted close to 32 million albums, cementing them as one of the biggest selling acts in hard rock and metal.
